On Saturday, I was around Eldoret and stumbled upon an Instagram post from @Supreme_Waweru about the Subaru of Eldoret charity drive. Not to be confused with Waweru, my co-worker at Motindechu, but a different Waweru who drives an iconic royal blue Toyota Auris. It was a post about a Subaru Charity drive event in Eldoret later that day, and the meet-up point was at the Mile Tisa Truck Stop.
Now, everyone in Eldoret knows about the Mile Tisa Truckstop. Here’s the truth, folks. There’s nothing quite like it in Kenya. And whoever came up with this brilliant idea deserves all the acclaim.
For most locals, this more than four-kilometer-long concrete land mass feels like a concrete desert in the middle of nowhere. But for car enthusiasts like myself, it’s a place to meet and test the limits of your car. If you are looking for a spot to sharpen your drifting skills – this is the perfect location. It’s free, it’s safe, and it’s next to the Eldoret bypass. Just make sure you carry lunch and enough water – it gets really hot.
The Subaru Owners Club of Eldoret had a Charity event at Jesus Love Children’s Home in Eldoret. The home is within the soon-to-be city limits. And if you know anything about Subaru owners – driving through traffic is not their cup of tea.
The Mile Tisa truck stop was the perfect meeting point to make the event more exciting and perhaps to have enough space to strategize and boost their boxer engines. I didn’t want to intrude on their affairs, but I got a little excited and asked to take some short clips of the event for my readers.
I must admit, Subaru of Eldoret has the most chill, down-to-earth members. Subaru owners get a lot of slack for being arrogant and excessively competitive, but what I saw at the Mile Nne truck stop was totally different.
They showed up, had a couple of laughs, took photos, and left without any chaos.
The chairman of Subaru for Eldoret was cool enough to let a crew from @Eldoret _Got _Rides and me take a few clips of their convoy as they left the truck stop.
According to one of the members I interviewed, the group is looking to improve the community (Eldoret) and, in their own way, impact the lives of the kids (clothes, food, and funds) sponsored by Jesus Love Children’s Home in Eldoret.
