The new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X is quickly becoming one of the most shocking performance cars ever built in America. In a recent drag race hosted by Brooks Weisblat at Apex Motor Club in Arizona, the 1,250-horsepower Corvette went head-to-head against the legendary 1,500-horsepower Bugatti Chiron, and the results will hurt a lot of hypercar enthusiasts.
On paper, the Bugatti Chiron should dominate. Its quad-turbocharged W16 engine, all-wheel-drive system, and multimillion-dollar engineering pedigree have made it one of the fastest cars on the planet. But the Corvette ZR1X appears to be rewriting the rules of performance cars entirely.
What makes this even crazier is the price gap. The Chiron costs around $4 million, while the Corvette ZR1X starts at roughly $230,000. Despite the massive difference in price and prestige, the Corvette won all three drag races.
The races were held on an unprepped surface, making traction a huge challenge for both cars. In the first race, the Bugatti spun its tires while the ZR1X launched hard and never looked back, running a 9.42-second quarter mile with a 2.3-second 0–60 mph time. During the second race, both cars struggled for grip, but the Corvette quickly pulled ahead and finished several car lengths in front. In the final race, the Chiron finally achieved a cleaner launch, but the Corvette still reeled it in almost instantly before pulling away again.
The craziest part is that the ZR1X is already producing insane factory numbers. Chevrolet claims the car can hit 0–60 mph in just 1.68 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in 8.675 seconds at 159 mph on pump gas, using standard Michelin PS4S tires.
