Well, nothing ends a good day like a good car story – and this one is about a smurf-blue Toyota Corolla 110. If you met this car two months ago, you’d only twist your neck to avoid contracting tetanus. In comes Antony Mbugua with his magic wand, and you’ll need an exorcist to stop your head from spinning. Don’t get me wrong, folks, we are not talking about a 90s horror flick but Pimp Your Ride Africa – and this is the real deal!
My social feeds are filled with pictures and stories of cars, and once in a while, I spot a car so nice that I’m compelled to share it with my readers. Today’s story is about a Toyota Corolla 110. It’s code-named the E110, but in the local lingua, it’s just a Toyota 110.
As all his car stories begin, @Anto_mbuguaa on the X platform received a call from a mysterious client asking him to pick up a car from the brush.
“The owner called us on a Saturday eve akatuuliza kama tunaezaendea gari vasho haha blindly sisi hao mimi vakeshen,” he narrated.
The car in question looked decent on the exterior but was butchered internally. In the video, you can hear the lightbulb moment when Mr. Mbugua got the crazy idea to paint the car blue.
This is a no-frills car bought by car owners who don’t want any car drama in their lives. This specific model was produced between 1998 and 2000 and mostly featured a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine code-named the 5A-FE.
Twenty-five days later, in the hands of the Ruiru-based bodywork maestro – the ‘humble teacher’s family cart’ is unlike anything you could have imagined. It’s bold, blue, and packing some serious street cred.
It’s a 360-degree transformation both inside and out. The wide stance, porky front lip, and multispoke fat wheels down below—which are wrapped in somewhat questionable Falken wheels—are hard to miss.
We’ll have to hand it to the man behind this transformation – he more than delivered on this task, and if I’m to be brutally honest, this masterpiece makes a lot of premium outfits in the city look bad.
Unfortunatley, this Smurf-Blue Toyota Corolla is all show and no go – it’s begging for a performance makeover to complete the aggressive stance. You can’t be running Falken wheels with a 5A-FE autoshifter. Therefore, the next logical step would be to slap it with a 3S-GTE. And as Mad Munga would say – Case Closed!
