There’s a new craze among car enthusiasts in Kenya, and it’s not those loud, obnoxious Japanese 4-bangers but offroaders. If you are one of those guys looking to get a second car to venture off the beaten path, there’s some good news for you. A mint-looking 2002 Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed DI-D is up for grabs at the Mitsubishi Owner’s Club Facebook Page. The Pajero is good for one thing, and one thing only – getting dirty, and the unit on sale looks like it’s lived life with a silver spoon. It’s too clean for a third-gen Mitsubishi Pajero.
First things first. We don’t know the owner and haven’t seen the car physically, and if you decide to follow up on this fantastic piece of Japanese engineering, you’ll need to do your due diligence. But that won’t stop us from talking about the car from a speculative point of view. We love offroaders:)
According to the owner, this third-generation Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed is going for a decent price of KES 999,999—let’s call it a million. And for what it’s worth, without checking its history, this seems like a really good deal, considering these vehicles cost a pretty penny currently.
The unit on sale has decent panels, and the paint job is on point. It’s been well taken care of.
“Looking for an off-road beast? Get yourself a stunning blue Mitsubishi shogun with a powerful engine and fuel efficiency,” the seller said.
She’s actually right; this version of the Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed is quite fuel-efficient. The DI-D is a direct injection diesel engine, which means it’s peppy on the throttle and quite efficient since it runs on diesel fuel.
This particular Mitsubishi Pajero featured a 3.2-liter turbodiesel engine (4M41) paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission good for 173 hp and 382 Nm of torque. Forget the meager ponies on this rig. When it comes to these heavy overlanding vehicles, torque is the most important figure, and this unit has plenty of it.
The third-generation Pajero also gets props for featuring Mitsubishi’s RISE reinforcement system, which is perfect for offroading and loading. Thanks to their solid structural rigidity, these Pajeros have limited incidents of rollover accidents compared to a Toyota Prado of the same generation.
Also, this specific Mitsubishi Pajero came with the SS 4WD II (Super Select 4WD II), an electronic computerized system that meant the driver didn’t have to be in gear to switch between drive modes. Simply put, this off-roader will change torque setting depending on the driving conditions.
Fresh from the assembly line, the Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed DI-D can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in 12.8 seconds, which is quite impressive for a massive off-roader like this.
As the seller says, this unit is a great piece for anyone looking to enjoy some offroading. It also features a roof rack for all your overlanding gear. If it’s running right and with all the proper documentation, the seller deserves to get the money she’s asking for – even more, in my opinion.
PS: This is a general review of the Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed DI-D and in no way an endorsement for the unit discussed above. Motindechu and its staff have not been in contact with or contracted with the vehicle’s owners. As such, we recommend doing your due diligence before purchasing any vehicle online. Motindechu will not be (is not) liable for any business conducted on this specific unit.
