There are not many driver’s cars left in the automotive scene; the 2024 Mazda MX-5 and Toyota GR86 are just a few of the dying breeds. For car enthusiasts who believe in sheer raw power without electronic interference, their dying wish is not to mess up with these legends.
So, what makes the ultimate driver’s car? Well, it’s simple. A tiny engine, manual tranny, minimal computer interferences – simply put, mechanical raw power, and the ability to 100% respond to driver inputs. And for crying out loud, let it never be an EV. For the longest time, that car has been the Mazda MX-5.
So, did anything change with the 2024 Mazda MX-5 ‘ND3’? Well, the Roads Untraveled channel on YouTube got the chance to check out this amazing new release to determine if Mazda killed its vibe.
Mazda has been very vague about the next-generation MX-5. They’ve not mentioned anything about keeping the manual transmission or maintaining the combustion engine, but they said they’ll work on keeping it an agile two-seater sports car.
For the 2024 Mazda MX-5, this iconic two-seater sports car retains the Skyactive 2-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. That’s enough to give this tiny sports car 181 hp. With that, it’ll bolt from 0 to 62 mph (100 kph) in 5.5 seconds.
Most people feel that it could be a little slow and that the 2024 Mazda MX-5 could be underpowered. But if you ask me, that’s enough power to enjoy on the weekends on windy country roads or mountain passes.
It’ll perfectly run as a daily, to and from work. It won’t do school runs or pick up your groceries, but on the weekend, you can pull the top down and enjoy some exhilarating drives with the wind in your hair.
The 2024 MX-5 is snug and effortlessly fun to drive. It’s the perfect combo of a classic roadster with a pinch of modern sports car DNA, and car buffs love it to the core.
