Mitsubishi Lancers get poor cred in this country for the person sitting behind the wheel – I’ve said it! I’ve been one of those people for a long time. Still, finally, someone came out of the woodwork and did a meticulous build minus the legendary heartplant – but don’t get fooled, soon, the car you see on the feature image will no longer be a kit baby Evo, but a full-blown Mitsubishi Evolution IV straight from the land of the rising sun – call it a homegrown Moran Nagasaki inspired Evo 4. I’ll crown the owner’s head and call it champe on the next Sunset GT Edition. This car is fire and deserves all the credit it’s getting, even though it’s an N/A prowling with Evo sheep skin.
I know a car owner with OCD when I see one, and I’m not talking about that psycho who cleans up after you’ve sat on their couch but someone willing to wait to ensure their build is legit. And I know you might be wondering who the maestro behind the Evo Kit is. Here’s the kicker: The owner wasn’t boarding the fiber-glass bandwagon and decided to go full OEM on the body kit.
Here’s the truth: Everything white on that car has Evo DNA and was once clenched on a full-blood Mitsubishi Evolution IV. The white is not just aesthetic—it’s bragging rights and street cred on the JDM scene. It’s a rolling $4,000 check (minus the car) in snow white.
Two years ago, this was just a regular econo everyday Mitsubishi Lancer. But as I’ve said above, the owner, Evanson Wamathai, is obsessively meticulous and calculative to have spotted the designated Triple 3 license plate.
Now, ladies and gentlemen, for those who haven’t caught on the meaning behind the number plate – it’s not anything trivial to do with Poker or Angel Numbers. It’s a subtle nod to Mitsubishi’s triple diamond logo and an ode to the proud JDM lineage – and that, my friend, sets the owner apart from most car enthusiasts in this great nation. When this car finally becomes an Evo, Mitsubishi Kenya needs to buy it as a show car – it’ll be worth millions for what it stands for.
I talked to Evans this morning. He was at a popular garage in Nairobi checking out his options for a performance build. He’s set his eyes on the 4G63T and will be ditching the original 4G15 Dohc. It will be a costly, long ride, but it’ll pay tenfold.
This here isn’t just a car. It is a labor of love by a youngin’ who’s crazy about JDMs. The Evo baby has been making appearances on the Kenyan auto scene. Last I saw it eating up Mua Hills tails with little regard to SF5s and STI Foresters dotted on its rearview mirror. I can’t wait to see how this currently purely aesthetic build creeps out of its pupa. The Evo Baby, soon to be an Evo Grand Daddy, is one of those cars you need to check out.
