Let’s face it, folks. The Turbotales Kenya duo George Kingara and Luqmaan Nahid are the hottest things when it comes to the Kenyan automotive ‘entertainment’ scene. Don’t get me wrong – I said entertainment for a reason: We’re all too tired of listening to someone talk about something you can read online. Sometimes, you just want to watch people have fun in fast cars, and on their latest episode, they rode in one of Australia’s hottest trucks, the 2023 Land Cruiser 70 Series GXL Single Cab.
There’s something about the 2023 Land Cruiser 70 Series GXL Single Cab that’s like what the old Defender is to Landrover. The 79 Series is an automotive relic that refuses to retire. Part of the reason is its huge fan base. The market can’t seem to let this one go—and other than put it in the books of history, Toyota keeps it original enough to keep its cultic fanbase happy while improving its capabilities both on and offroad.
If you had the chance to watch the Kenyan hilarious duo’s latest episode, “ THE 2023 LAND CRUISER 79 SERIES V8 ENGINE,” you’ll notice the only thing that makes this iconic work truck different from the conventional cop car (Kenya Police Land Cruiser) on the interior is the steering wheel (Land Cruiser 300-Series), and an aftermarket driver’s seat (Sparco bucket Seat).
Disclaimer: The owner did these upgrades. The stock model assembled in Kenya by CFAO Motors has a regular 79-Series Steering wheel and seats.
From the assembly line, the 79-Series Land Cruiser comes with a bunch of modern techs and driver assistance features (as package options), including lane-departure alert, automotive high beam assist, and road sign recognition. That’s not all. For entertainment, you also get a 6.7-inch information screen (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto).
But that’s only on the interior, ladies and gents. This 2023 Land Cruiser 70 Series GXL Single Cab has more gems hidden under the hood. Floor the gas pedal and shift gears, and you won’t miss that obnoxious squeal coming from the engine bay.
Nope! It’s not a wandering wild boar – that’s the sound of the internals working of forced induction. This single-cab Land Cruiser packs a turbocharged 4.5-liter diesel engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, squeezing out 205 hp (151 kW) and 430 Nm of torque.
The 2023 Land Cruiser 70 Series GXL Single Cab in question also came with 8-stage adjustable shocks. For add-ons, the owner got three pairs of wheels, all complete with BF Goodrich offroad tires and a full bull bar kit.
“I am so glad you brought up the issue about the Ford Ranger, the 79 Series, and the 80 Series. I would go for this any day, “ Luqmaan confessed. “For me, I am on the fence between the two,” George responded.
