Politics and celebrity lives are quite different, and in Kenya, the mental shifts between the two paradigms are gulfs apart. A social media celebrity and his Audi TTRS got into a pickle after pulling up to the wrong crowd during the Gen Z protest in Nairobi on Thursday evening. Talk about doing the right thing at the wrong time. The Audi TTRS owner, popularly known as Kenyan Prince, was asked to politely vacate the scene or face the consequences. He chose the former.
Kenyan Prince has been the talk of town for the past couple of weeks. Here’s the truth: He’s in his early 20s and making 40+-year-old moves—it got people talking. And since his life revolves around cars, we had to feature him at some point on Motindechu. Plus, he also owns a sick line of cars.
Unfortunatley, his charm for fine cars didn’t sit well with the irate crowd, and he clearly didn’t think through his idea before pulling up with a German machine in a protest about the rising cost of living. It was like fiddling around with a carcass in front of a hungry pack of coyotes – his goose was cooked.
After the incident, Kenyan Prince shared on his social media feed the aftermath of the event – his car suffered a few scuffs here and there and even lost a side mirror cover. That should set him back a couple of thousands of shillings in repairs. Well, he might have a ton of cash, but no one likes when people get handsy with their toys, and from the video, Kenyan Prince was pissed!
“This is what your maandamano has done me in town, guys. I was in town trying to help you fight for your rights but see. I don’t have the side mirror cover, but look at the mateke,” He lamented on his TikTok page.
Politics and Celebrity lives are quite different. It’s the reason not too many celebrities make it in politics. Things get petty in celebrity dues, but when it comes to politics – it’s personal, and people get ugly.
Sadly, such a nice car got bruised. We hate to see a nice car get scuffed, but it’s also important to be cautious when pulling such stunts in a political setting. He clearly had a genuine motive to show support, but it might have rubbed people the wrong way.
Rule of thumb – Good cars and crowds don’t mix.
