Here’s the thing, ladies and gentlemen. When it comes to giving life to old cars – the devil is in the details – and this eighth-gen Nissan Sunny B14 is no exception. Let’s take a minute to give props to the individual behind this epic design transformation. It takes a lot of guts, manhours, and, most importantly, Kuching! (read fat ones) to take a used-up, third-tier beater like this and give it some princess treatment. It makes you think – everyone deserves a second chance.
But let’s not romanticize this story – if you’ve been anywhere within a foot of being a Nissan owner, you know feelings and cars don’t mix. And for fear of getting hurdled with stones from diehard Nissan followers, I’ll say this – like a perilous kid, it’s not always about the car; it’s about the owner, and in this scenario, anyone getting under the hood of a Nissan car with a wrench and a socket, needs to have brains.
This eighth-generation Nissan Sunny B14 Super Saloon didn’t start life as the show-stopper it is. When it rolled out of the production plant in Japan in 1998, the designers were looking for practicality—think of getting from point A to B.
But the owner of this stunner had an imagination beyond the previous, and fortunately, that’s where this story pivots. In an era where blandness can often be the enemy of boldness, this eight-gen B14 has undergone a glow-up that could steal the show at any parking spot.
He threw away the standard rims and conservative paintwork and slapped some chunky aftermarket wheels with low-pros on this bad boy. It’s no longer just white but glistening, a far cry from its previous forgettable looks. To add some aggression to the athletic demeanor, he added subtle but impactful mods on the headlights.
Now, I have a bone to pick with headlight restorations in the country. While LEDs are trendy, some modifications are neither here nor there ( no imagination or wit). But fortunately, this one has character. You can easily tell the owner has some knowledge of the 90s JDM culture by picking orange corner lights with a darkened backdrop. The blue-tinted projector gives it soul and a devilish glow.
It’s chunky and sitting low (by precision), with customized skirtings on the side – if she were a girl, we’d know she’s ready to Samba. But everything on the exterior, from the cyborg eyes to the athletic stance, says it’s a ‘he’ – and boy is he ready to run. Fast!
But again, that’s in the unknown. We have no idea of what treats lie underneath this awe-inspiring 360-degree transformation. It would be treasonous if the engine wasn’t running any mods—and I mean as simple as an aftermarket air intake system.
Better yet, if they love speed – swapping the lazy 1.6-liter GA16DE engine for something with an ‘SR’ tagging would be more than welcome. Make it an SR20DET, and you’ll out-pace just about any sloppy Subbie Boy looking to impress their low-budget occupants clutched on the rear seat.
What I’m trying to say here is that in motorsports, a pretty face can only take you as far off the mark!
